The Second Step
Become more conscious your Core Priorities in life.
Begin with the prayer found on the right,
and once again, use Listening Prayer
to discern God's voice.
For group use when teaching this step to others
Invite the members of your group to share their Core Priority statements
with each other in the group. The purpose of this is not to critique each
other's statements, but to make them more real by reading them aloud. Such
an act helps us clarify and hone our understanding of ourselves, and this is
essential to the steps of this journey. We cannot grow if we don't know
where we're beginning. In this group process, emphasize the need for
respect and confidentiality among members of the group.

Step Two: Become aware of and write
down your own Core Priorities in life.

The Core Priorities in a person's live are
those things which we choose above all
else. For some, this is their work, their
business, and their money. They are
dedicated to their jobs and committed
to succeeding in their careers. For
others, the priority is work for justice
and peace.

Others are committed to service of
either community or family. For these,
the commitments are clear.
And for still
others, the Core Priorities
of their lives
circulate around travel, enjoyment, or
pleasure. They make their choices based
on this.
And for others, it is a love of knowledge and wisdom which drives them. For
others, it is power and being able to be in a position to be effective. And
for yet others, the Core Priorities of their lives spin around the arts, or
education, or faith based work.

Take the time now to write a brief statement telling what your own Core
Priorities are in life. Click
here to use a Worksheet to help you get started
on this step.
What are those things which are your FIRST choices most of
the time?
